What is 'coaching' all about?
It involves two people working together, one-to one
It provides feedback on a person's strengths and weaknesses
It is results focused and aims to address specific issues
It aims to enhance performance and improve a person's skills / skill base
It can be both short term and long term, depending on what the goals are
It is essentially a non-directive form of development, where the responsibility for change and action is left with the person receiving the coaching
It works on both organisational and individual goals
It is time-bounded
It is a highly skilled activity
It invariably involves personal issues, but the emphasis is on work performance
